Small N80 Firmware Update Announced

Symbian Freak reports that there will be another Firmware Update for the N80. Read about it here. Firmware v4.0623.0.42 seems to be a very minor update, key changes being several fixes for the camera forward compatibility fix and Sync agent forward compatibility fix, both for FOTA update. There is also a fix for SMS sending delays. The update should be available from your local Nokia service centers soon, and for the Nokia Software Updater later.

As far as I am concerned, my N80 seems to be running pretty smooth after the last update. I don't have any camera or SMS problems, so I don't think I will be going through the hassle of upgrading until a major fix is announced. Also, after getting feedback from other users about their upgrading experience, I must admit to being a little hesitant about the whole process myself. If you still want to go through with it later, please remember to BACKUP your data and SYNC your contacts to Outlook. Better safe than sorry.

hey, are there any news on QR code or Datamatrix readers for the N80. I have the N80 which is very cool, but I cannot get any reader to work thanks to the binary incompability of the new OS. Nokia has readers for the n93, which i assume should be migratable to the n80. Any ideas? Stan

Hi,

Can I assume that your contacts and messages are saved into your memory card? If so, after conducting the firmware upgrade, did you change the contacts and message settings?

In messages> options> settings> others> memory in use, try switching from phone memory to your memory card. This should restore your messages.

Stan,

I've looked at the QR code issue but have not been able to find one that works yet.

Also, I don't know if this will help but have you tried to down load Qode Reader from NeoMedia at www.paperclick.com? Its a different format, I know, but its something that a little more popular here in asia. Point your mobile web browser to get.qode.com.

Hi,

This is my first post here in your blog but I have to admit that I've read every post made by you.. From the day I bought my N80.

I just want to know when the Upgrade will be available through Firmware Upgrade software.

You are doing a great work.. Keep it up.

Hi, I've got the same problem as "anonymous" posted at 6:06AM. I backed up all memory data from my N80 using PC Suite then upgraded the firmware. After that I restored data back to the phone. All music and data stuff was successfully restored but not the contacts calendar or messages. The strange thing is that when I peeked into the backup file (*.nbu), they were all there! For some reason PC Suite just don't restore them onto the mobile. Any ideas?

The same problem as previous in my Nokia E61. Anyone know any NBU files reader software?

I have the same problem after my firmware upgrade with N80. How do you "peek" into the .nbu file? Is it possible to find the calendar and messages there, and if so, is there a way to transfer them to the N80?
